Bister Ink is not easy to work with, but with a little practice and the right card stock you can obtain wonderful results for Bg's.
If you are an Artist that likes precision then this product is probably not for you, however if you are like me and love the unexpected and when it does come together, then I encourage you to purchase some colours.

This is how the ink comes, it looks like embossing powder, if you missed my last post all the details are (here) on working with this product.
I sprinkled the colours randomly on my cardstock, then spritzed with water.
When it was dry, (I did not use a heat gun) I applied texture paste through a Stencil to make a border.
First coat of paint (metallic Gold) on the Border .
 Applied some stencils using White paint.
Adding the embellishments and elements.

 Making a Chevron Pattern

Cut three pieces of  paper into strips of equal size and place them in repeated rows.

Start gluing them down on some paper until you have a size want. 
Make another one -Mirror image.
Start cutting at a 45 degree angle, making sure to cut your second piece (mirror image) to match.
The patterns should look like this, paired up.
Glue in place, I used multi medium.
For those discerning people who notice immediately that my points do not match, do not despair, I learnt a very long time ago that these can be hidden!!!
And here I am sewing my Chevron, and at the same time covering up the mismatched points.



Thread a needle with some cotton ( same colour as your lace would be a good start!
I have used a white for this tutorial against a cream lace so that you can observe and scrutinise the method.
Choose some soft lace, you can use any width, but keep in mind that the larger your width the bigger your flower.
I have used a 3/4 inch scalloped lace, again it does not have to be scalloped.
Cut a length of 6-10 inches.
Start at the bottom edge and sew little running stitches up to the top and then back down to the bottom, as evenly as possible but, don't fret that your stitches are not exact.
This picture shows the upward  motion.
 Take note of my needle position.
When you reach the top always finish with your needle to the front.
Start your next stitch by looping over, and underneath towards the back of the lace to start the downward stitching.
When you have sewn about halfway gently pull up your stitching........
........ careful now as you do not want them tight, loose and relaxed is better, you will see the lace naturally want to curl, that is when you stop.

Curl up the lace into a flower, making it tight at the beginning to form the bud, and work around until you are happy with your size, if it is not big enough continue to sew some more,   until it looks like a perfect Rose/Flower.
When you are happy, cut your lace to within a 1/4inch of your stitching.
Do not remove or tie off your needle and thread.
Tuck your end underneath and sew a little stitch to hold , then sew right up through the flower to catch up all the layers, do this a few times, tweaking the petals as you go.
You should have a finished flower like this and not bulky at the base.
And here are the two side by side, notice how you obtain a different effect depending on what type of lace you use.


The technique I use for my watercolour Bg.

Apply your water colours liberally onto your CS or paper of choice; let them dry. 
Here my Watercolour paints are wet, when they air dry the result is much lighter; something to remember when applying your paints first up, you can always add more later but you will get a different pattern.  I often use a paper towel to dry off really wet areas, it is fun to see the effects this leaves on the bg.

   Use stencils and stamps, or emboss.

Here I have added a stencil swirl and more Gesso then dry embossed.

Now this is ready to be embellished and made into a card.

For my mixed media card  here I spray a selection of inks onto some card-stock.

   Next I add Gesso, stencils, masking tape, tissue paper and stamps.
Once this is completely dry, choose preferred embossing folder and run through your machine.



My piece of calico was sprayed with inks, stamps applied and then a light coating of Gesso, I do this last part to stabilise and stiffen the material.

Place inside an embossing folder, and you create the patterned texture as you would when using card stock.

It also has the wonderful effect of toning and blending the inks into the material.
 I let this Gesso dry.
A tip, Only  use 100% cotton.



Dye up some calico in distress stains.
Rip a strip, not too wide and fold over.

Use a tool to to wrap around, then place on top of glued cardstock.
You may find it easier to use a glue gun if you are dextrous and nimble fingered, I am not and I have glue everywhere but where I need it, so I find this way is easier for me.
 The distress paints I used were Frayed Burlap, Salty Ocean, and Broken China.

The first step was to brayer up my folder with these colours.
I dabbed them on my mat side by side, then used my brayer to ink the folder and run it through the e-bosser.
The result was NOT what I was expecting, I tried again, thinking I used the wrong side but the same thing happened, the paint was not transferring evenly, then I thought perhaps it was because I did not have the 3d Folder.
 I gave up on this technique, and instead I used the inked brayer directly ontop of the embossed card-stock.  Aha....this is the effect I was looking for.
Next step is to use distress inks 
It looks dark here because I took the photo immediately after inking, as you all know it does dry to a lighter shade.
I applied some antique linen randomly over the Bg.
Inking the lace.
I cut a frame on my cricut and inked up in the same hues, the bird was also inked up using distress stains and glossy accents applied.
The heart is cut out of corrugated cardboard.


First choose colours of Twinkling H20's and some stitched paper, this one as you can see is a yucky Brown  (there is obviously a name for this type of paper but I do not know what it is.)
 Using the water brush proceed to paint the paper.
 Mixing up your paints on the paper until it is covered.
Just like this.
Add some Gold paint.
And blend.

Add additional stitching.
Add embellishments.
I just used the same hues with my oil pastels. 
Dry emboss and ink (distress stains) up the corded frame.
Add a dyed ribbon,




 To make my stencil I used my Cricut Machine, and a Cornflakes box.

Cut a pattern on a cutting machine that will take a heavy card.
I used Wendy Vecchi (Studio 490) embossing paste over my stencil.
