New Zealand's Beauty and a card.

Hello Friends
Today I have a few photos of the magnificent views Rob and I witnessed while we were on a short break last week. We took a road trip to a pretty little township called Taupo, a 4hour car journey from Auckland. I did not take any photos here, in fact I did not take my camera!
However Rob had his Iphone so I was able to take a few of the Mountains when we took a drive to the Château.  Mt Ruapehu is in the Bg.

The weather was unexpectedly good as we are in the middle of winter.
Tongariro National Park has great views of all three mountains, Mt Tongariro, Mt Ngauruhoe (Mt Doom in the Lord of the Rings) and Mt Ruapehu.

This is the view we had all the way once we entered the Tongariro National Park.
Ruapehu is on the left , Tongariro is the Cone shaped one and Ngauruhoe is the smallest on the right.

This is Mt Ruapehu, she was majestic, and we could not take our eyes of the scene before us.

The Volcanoes  are active, it was only last November that Tongariro erupted a plume of sulphurous ash, I am pleased to say she looks very quiet here.
We had a coffee break at Whakapapa village which is the stop off point for all the skiers, we did not venture into this activity!

And I made this card, I painted/embossed  the background to create this texture.
I am entering this into: Sparkles Monthly Challenge -* Autumn Colours *
Thanks for the visit, back on Friday with another Shabby Chic card for the House of Cards Challenge.
Smiles:)

Exciting and Inspiring.

Hello Friends

What is exciting you ask......being asked to join a design team for one and I was asked!!!
The new Challenge Blog -"House of Cards" and this week it is the turn of the Shabby Chic/Vintage Team, if you have been on the moon this month and have not caught up on this blog and it's different format, hop over here and read all about it!
But before I show you my inspiration for the Challenge, I also heard this week that my local stamp shop 'Scottie Crafts' also desire my talents!!!!! So I am very excited.

For the past three weeks we 'Shabby-Vin' girls have been waiting in the wings to display our wares, it has been a lesson in patience to say the least, but now the week is here and we are in the spotlight.
The rest of the team have given you amazing inspiration from this photo, in the various genres, so if you are someone who wants to try different categories then this is the place you need to be!

I love turquoise..... forget about the sweeping generality that all blues are serene and sedate, brilliant Blues add a whole new dimension to this cool family and turquoise is dynamic and electric, it is an engaging colour and expresses exhilaration, it is warm and playful as it carries a undertone of Purple, so it pleases the eye.

My image is G45 (Little Darlings) and for once in my creative mind I knew how this was going to play out, and it all came together beautifully.

As you can see it has all the Shabby Chic/Vintage elements that make this genre so delightful,  and although I am not giving new life to old things in the true sense of the word, it does generate the style I am looking for; soft and eclectic.

This is a genre that does not suit everyone, but you learn so much about design, element placement and how different media work together, it is so satisfying, albeit labour intensive.
It is a Challenge after all and it is great way to extend your creative mind.

The Bg is hand painted, stamped, hand stitched and dry embossed.
Spellbinders diecut also painted and dry embossed.
Flowers have been purchased.

Hope you will join us this week at House of Cards, I would love to see your interpretation of the colours.
Have a great week and thanks for the visit.
Smiles:)

Can I touch the Fish???

Hello friends

This week Nicole (my daughter) handed me a myriad of photos of Scarlett (Grand-daughter), they arrive at regular intervals for me to add to her scrapbook, I have been remiss in completing any pages of late, so when I added these latest ones to my pile I have to confess I was feeling a tad guilty!

It is a different mindset to create a scrapbook page, as opposed to designing cards etc. I like to add elements that connect with what I am seeing in the photo, I thought these two were great.

You probably thought the title of my post a little obscure, but when you see the page it will all make sense.

Scarlett always likes to touch the fish.

I first made a stencil from the TH  decorative strip-cobblestone and made my Bg using victoria velvet and weathered wood distress inks, I also diecut strips of scallops from this to represent the scales of the fish.

Dad loves to go fishing and this is a rather large Snapper that he has caught off the coast of NZ.

A shell, gauze and lace are the elements I included for texture.
Her reaction to the feel of the skin is priceless.

A little sympathy card.

Hello Everyone,
I have a little card to show you that is not complex, but it does have some of my favourite elements and techniques.
The Orange and Green palette- to get this colour scheme right choose a bold shade of only one of the colours and a calmer shade of the other hue. I chose my Green to stand out.

Green and Orange is a palette that I do not normally work with, but I loved the way this turned out.

Have a great day
