A Cracked Heart.

Good Morning All.
The past few days I have been playing with my paints and loved it, my need to get dirty was like a person in withdrawal, as of  late I don't seem to have let go in this area much; Mixed-media is a real passion for me, some of the work I produce has no practical use whatsoever, it is the process that is so pleasurable and gratifying.

And this plaque is a great example;  more a symbolism of a tragic event than  anything of use. Now before I go further let me assure you I do not have a cracked heart, as far as I am aware I have a perfectly good one.

The heart was cut free hand, coloured up with a mix of water-soluble wax pencils and Tombow pens,  crackle glaze was applied using an old cut credit card, I did not work it too much, I have found with experience the more you try to smooth the glaze off the less crackle you obtain. I left it for 24hours!
To finish off, I rubbed frayed burlap distress stains all over the top and let it really sink into the cracks.

I rusted up some metal elements and topped with stickles to soften the look.

To make the frame I used Oil Pastels, and blended.

Now to add texture.. yes!
I dry embossed, then placed a stencil with embossing paste randomly over this, then immediately sprinkled beadazzles all over the top.

To complete the look, I mounted my heart on a painted Bg and added some lace.
The result is an  eclectic mix of media to symbolise a broken heart.

I have been wanting to enter the Mixed Media Colour Challenges for weeks and always missed the dates, and even though the picture shows a happy married couple, I honestly did not notice them, concentrating 100%  on the palette.

Thank you for visiting, I appreciate your feedback enormously.

Good Morning Sue. Thanks for the tip on the Crackle Glaze and the credit card.
I never have much luck with the crackle glaze before, maybe this is was I'm missing.
Such wonderful detail in this piece. Great colors too.
But the Beadazzles bits in wet embossing paste has me "Itching", to try it.
All in all a wonderful piece.
Hugs Vada

What a lovely piece! I would have thought the heart was cute with a die...I do like the primitive shape. The crackle surface works so well with the whole piece.

I got the best giggle at the married couple and that cracked heart. I found the humor fabulous and you didn't even take notice of them...LOL. You did however nail the medium and colors...which are incredible! You really are a whiz at this mixed media genre. It's a beautiful creation.
